[Dime Time TV] Beyonce’s “Black Face” Controversy [VIDEO]
Unaware of what she was getting herself into, Beyonce Knowles-Carter has stirred up some controversy with a spread for the March issue of French magazine, L’Officiel Paris.
The “If I Were a Boy” songstress posed in honor of the magazine’s 90th anniversary and, in tribute to Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, she put on “blackface” makeup along with tribal makeup and a costume designed by her mother, Tina Knowles.
Defending the controversial spread, the magazine released a statement claiming that the surprising look was “far from the glamorous Sasha Fierce” and explained that it was “a return to her African roots, as you can see on the picture, on which her face was voluntarily darkened.”
Not everyone saw it that way, however. One reader said, “Blackface is not fashion forward or edgy and, in my opinion, it is just flat-out offensive.”
